Dental Implants Can Rebuild a Full Set of Strong, Healthy Teeth

Tooth loss can cause a variety of problems, from eating and speech difficulties to a hit to your self-esteem. In addition, progressive bone loss in your jaw can cause the structure of your face to collapse inward. When you receive dental implants in The Woodlands, TX, they stimulate your jawbone like natural tooth roots, halting bone resorption and preventing future bone loss.

While dental implants are the number one tooth replacement solution, not all implant solutions or practices are created equal, and it’s important to choose an experienced implant dentist like Dr. Adriana Wells. After you get dental implants at Dental Specialists & Implant Center, you can eat all the foods you love, smile and laugh confidently, and experience a better quality of life!

Titanium vs. Ceramic Dental Implants: Which is Right for You?

Titanium Dental Implants

Ceramic Dental Implants

What are Dental Implants?

A dental implant consists of a titanium or ceramic implant post-surgically placed in your jawbone. The implant post replaces your missing tooth root to form a stable foundation for a replacement tooth or teeth. The abutment protrudes above your gumline, functioning as a connector between the post and prosthetic tooth.

The crown, bridge, or full mouth prosthesis is placed after the implants fuse with your underlying bone. The three dental implant components work together to restore a natural-looking smile that can last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene and professional care!

The Incomparable Benefits of Dental Implants

Our Dental Implant Options

1

Single Implants

A dental implant provides a permanent solution for a missing or failing tooth. A single dental implant replaces your missing tooth, from the root to the crown, seamlessly blending in with your natural dental arch.

Whether you get a titanium or ceramic dental implant at the Dental Specialists & Implant Center, the post must fully integrate with your underlying jawbone before the crown is attached.

2

Ceramic Dental Implants

As a holistic and biological periodontal and implant practice, we pride ourselves on offering healthy alternatives for people with preexisting conditions, allergies, or simply those looking for the most biocompatible dental implants in The Woodlands, TX. Zeramex, 100% metal-free ceramic implants offer superb osseointegration (fusion) while decreasing the risk of inflammation because they aren’t subject to corrosion.

Studies have shown that blood flow in gum tissue around ceramic is similar to that of natural teeth, and oral bacteria is less likely to adhere to ceramic than titanium, thereby reducing plaque buildup. With no risk of a gray implant post-shimmering through your gums around the edge of the crown, ceramic implants also provide beautiful aesthetics!

3

Dental Bridges

With traditional bridges, two healthy teeth on each side of the missing tooth must be modified and crowned to support the false tooth (pontic) in the middle. Because the missing tooth root isn’t replaced, bone loss continues under the false tooth.

Implant-supported bridges at Dental Specialists & Implant Center are a more permanent option for replacing a single tooth or several missing teeth in a row. The bridge typically comprises two or more artificial teeth connected and attached to the implant abutments.

4

Implant-Supported Dentures

Depending on your preference, implant-supported dentures can be fabricated as a removable overdenture or a fixed appliance. Implant-supported dentures are a more stable option than traditional dentures and stimulate your jawbone, thereby improving your oral health.

A fixed implant-supported denture eliminates common issues associated with traditional dentures, including messy adhesives, jawbone shrinkage, gum irritation, slippage, food limitations, nightly removal for cleaning, and periodic relining.

5

Full Mouth Dental Implants

If you’re missing all or many teeth in your upper or lower arch, full mouth dental implants in The Woodlands, TX, is a life-changing solution. Full mouth dental implants require a minimum of four strategically placed implants per arch to restore function and aesthetics fully.

If you qualify for immediate-load full mouth dental implants, Dr. Wells will fit you with temporary teeth on the same day as surgery. Although dental implants are more expensive than a bridge or denture, they are more affordable in the long run because they can last a lifetime!

Your Personalized Dental Implant Journey

Consult and Planning

The first step is an in-depth consultation with Dr. Wells, including an oral exam, a discussion about your current and past dental and medical health, and diagnostic imaging. A strong foundation is essential for fusing dental implants with your underlying bone. Cone-beam computed tomography is used to assess your underlying bone density and volume.

If insufficient, we’ll schedule a bone grafting procedure before dental implant surgery. At your initial consultation, we’ll also discuss dental implant costs and available financing options.

Procedure and Same-Day Teeth

After making a small incision in your gum tissue, a dental drill creates space in your bone to insert the implant posts in predetermined locations surgically. In many cases, local anesthetic is adequate. However, we offer nitrous oxide and IV sedation to ease dental anxiety and ensure dental implant surgery in The Woodlands, TX, is as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

We will make small incisions in your gums and insert four implants in predetermined spots within the jawbone. In many cases, Dr. Wells will fit you with a provisional restoration fabricated from acrylic resin, meaning you can walk out with a new smile the same day as surgery!

Healing and Final Restorations

Although most patients can resume a normal routine after a few days, we must follow our postsurgical guidelines to reduce the risk of complications and ensure proper healing. It’s normal to experience some discomfort or swelling for a few days to a week.

Dental implants typically take 3-6 months to integrate with your jawbone completely. After healing, an abutment is connected to the implant (if it isn’t built in), and impressions are taken of your upper and lower jaw to fabricate a beautiful crown, bridge, or full mouth prosthesis that fully restores your smile function and beauty.
